Affirmation Cards: Trauma Recovery
A pull-one-and-sit-with-it practice for survivors — short sentences to print, carry, or pull at random when the day calls for it.
Worksheets are for hours. Cards are for minutes. Sometimes what you need isn't to journal — it's to hold a single sentence in your hand while you wait for an appointment, sit in the car after work, or get yourself out the door in the morning.
Below are twenty-four short, trauma-informed cards. Read them as a deck. Pick the ones you want to keep. Print them, write them, or save them in your phone. Then pull one — eyes closed, no overthinking — when you need one.
This pairs well with: The Trauma Affirmations: A Reading Practice worksheet, which gives a longer, sit-down version of the same approach. If you've done that one, this is the portable version.
The Deck
- It is allowed to be hard.
- I deserve to take up space.
- This too shall pass.
- Be kind with yourself.
- All my emotions are valid.
- If all I did today was breathe, that counts.
- I deserve to be loved and treated well.
- I am enough as I am.
- I have the right to be heard and taken seriously.
- It can be safe to let others close.
- It's okay to not know what I need.
- I am a good person; what happened was not my fault.
- When I forgive, I begin to heal. When I let go, I begin to grow.
- Tomorrow is a different day.
- I do not have to prove myself to anyone.
- It's okay to feel my feelings.
- I will be patient and love myself as I heal.
- I am not alone in this.
- I am safe right now.
- I don't need permission to exist.
- It's okay to have a bad day, a bad week, a bad month.
- Healing is not linear.
- I am not afraid to be myself.
- It is safe to be me.
Curate Your Deck
Twenty-four is too many to carry. Pick the eight that fit your life right now. The others can sit out for a while.

When to Pull a Card
Make this a small, defined practice — not something you're supposed to do all day. Pick two or three reliable moments.
- [ ] First thing in the morning, before checking my phone
- [ ] In the car before I drive off
- [ ] Before a hard appointment or call
- [ ] When I notice the overwhelm coming
- [ ] Before bed
- [ ] On anniversary days that I know are heavy

Inspired by: This deck draws on a trauma-recovery affirmation set developed for use in our clinical work. Cards may be printed and shared freely for personal use.
A gentle note: This worksheet is a learning tool, not treatment. If what comes up for you feels too big to hold alone, please work with a qualified clinician.
