Couples Journaling

A shared notebook where you say things you don't always remember to say.

A couples journal is a single notebook the two of you write in together. Not a diary. Not a list of grievances. A place to record the small, ordinary, often-unspoken things — what you're proud of in each other, what you're hoping for, what you noticed that day.

Why this works

  • It buys you processing time. Writing slows you down enough to say what you actually mean.
  • It surfaces the unspoken. Things you'd never say out loud find a way onto the page.
  • It builds an artifact. Months from now, you'll have a record of who you were together in this season.

What this is NOT for

  • Venting big anger or contempt — those go in your private journal, or to your therapist.
  • Litigating recent fights.
  • Replacing actual talking.

Commit to a window: Don't try this for forever. Commit to six weeks. At the end of six weeks, decide together whether to continue, change, or stop.

Step 2 — The first week

Blank-page paralysis is real. Use these for the first week — or the first time the page feels intimidating. Pick one a day, in any order.

  • Day 01 — Something you appreciated about me today (small things count more).
  • Day 02 — A hope you have for us this season.
  • Day 03 — Something you'd like me to know about you that I might not.
  • Day 04 — What you noticed about my day.
  • Day 05 — Something you're proud of yourself for today.
  • Day 06 — A question you'd like to ask me — but don't have to ask out loud.
  • Day 07 — One thing you don't want to forget about right now.
