Honesty Modeling: Name the Real Why
A demand-avoidant nervous system is finely tuned to hidden agendas — a request with an unspoken motive behind it sets off the alarm. The most reliable way to keep a request from feeling like manipulation is radical transparency: say the real reason, and your own stake in it, out loud. This is a couple's practice.

Example: 'I'm asking about ___ because ___, and I'd feel ___ if we could ___ — can we figure it out together?'

When has being fully transparent changed how a request landed?

Transparency disarms the alarm: You're not over-explaining — you're removing the hidden agenda the nervous system is scanning for. Naming your own stake ('I'd feel calmer if…') turns it into a shared problem instead of a command.
